Welcome to the official campaign page to Elect Michael Baker for City Councilor of Ward 5 in Marlbough ,MA!
As a lifelong resident I consider myself lucky to have been raised here. I went through the Marlborough public school system from Bigelow to Marlborough High and learned the meaning of Panther Pride. I have worked locally for many years and raising family here. I am a father, husband, brother, cousin, coach and friend to all. I am an active member of the community and volunteer whenever I have the chance. I am just a regular guy who cares deeply about this city and residents.
I am passionate, hardworking and have a love for this city that is unmatched. I previously ran for Mayor in 2023 and although I didn't win I was able to learn and connect with many residents. Many people that I have spoken with feel left out or forgotten. I intend to change that by listening to what our citizens need and finding positive solutions to those needs. It is time to bring in new faces with fresh ideas so that Marlborough can continue to move forward and prosper.
My campaign will focus on the issues that are important to the people:
1. Road improvement: We have all seen the condition of our roads. I will make sure Ward 5 is being represented when road improvements are implemented by the city.
2. Growth: Marlborough has grown fast and with more apartments being built we need an effective plan in place to support this growth. There will be more traffic, more children in our schools and more stress on our DPW, police and fire departments. We need to make sure they are fully staffed with the most up to date equipment. There will be a need for more senior housing. We need to make sure we are exhausting all efforts in that area. More children means we need to have enough space in our schools. I propose no new apartment construction until we make sure all these needs are being met. We also need to make sure we are bringing in businesses that will revitalize our main street and keep businesses profitable.
4. Community: We will continue the revitalization projects on Lincoln and Main Street. There is a need for a west end fire station and an update for the Pleasant Street Station. We need to make sure our senior citizens are getting the support they need. They need to be shown that Marlborough still cares about the people who made this city what it is. Through growth we have lost a little of that and I intend to bring that neighborhood pride back. Ward 5 has a lot of history and we need to cherish that and keep our neighborhoods clean.
5. Rats have been a problem in certain sections of this Ward. I will review what the city is doing and make sure all steps are being taken care of to solve this problem.
We need to do all of this while also keeping property taxes down. I learned early on that when facing tough challenges that you pull together as neighbors to get the job done. To succeed in this effort I will need the support of family, friends and fellow concerned citizens. Change is needed and it’s time to get to work, tackling the issues that people actually face. The road ahead will not be easy but we can all do this together. I will be out walking the streets and talking to the people.
