Welcome to the official campaign page to Elect Michael Baker for Mayor of Marlbough,MA
As a lifelong resident I consider myself lucky to have been raised here. I went through the Marlborough public school system from Bigelow to Marlborough High and learned the meaning of Panther Pride. I worked at a local print shop for many years and am currently raising a family here. I am a father, husband, brother, cousin, coach and friend to all.
I am passionate, hard working and have a love for this city that is unmatched. I have always had an interest in local politics and after speaking with family and concerned citizens have decided the time is right to seek political office. I think the most important role of Mayor is to represent the people. Many people that I have spoken to feel left out or forgotten. I intend to change that by listening to what our citizens need and finding positive solutions to those needs. It is time to bring in new faces with fresh ideas so that Marlborough can continue to move forward and prosper.
My campaign will focus on the issues that are important to the people:
1. Road improvement : We have all seen the condition of our roads. I will work with the city council and come up with a plan and funding to repair our roads for the long term. I will also contact the state to make sure there is a plan to fix the state roads.
2. Our growth as a city: Marlborough has grown fast and with more apartments being built we need an effective plan in place to support this growth. There will be more traffic, more children in our schools and more stress on our DPW, police and fire departments. We need to make sure they are fully staffed with the most up to date equipment. I propose no new apartment construction until we make sure all these needs are being met.
3.Education: I have heard from parents and educators that are concerned about the public school system. I will work with our teachers, students and the school committee to address these concerns and find ways to improve. We also need to start thinking now about a renovation of Marlborough High. There has been an increase of children and very soon they will all come together in High School. We have to be prepared and make sure there is space to accommodate this growth.
4. Community: We will continue the revitalization projects on Lincoln and Main Street. There is a need for a west end fire station. We need to make sure our senior citizens are getting the support they need.
They need to be shown that Marlborough still cares about the people who made this city what it is. I grew up in an era that we went to the festival and watched fireworks with all our friends. There was a sense of coming together as a community.Through growth we have lost a little of that and I intend to bring that neighborhood pride back.
I learned early on that when facing tough challenges that you pull together as neighbors to get the job done. To succeed in this effort I will need the support of family, friends and fellow concerned citizens. Change is needed and it’s time to get to work, tackling the issues that people actually face. The road ahead will not be easy but we can all do this together. I will be out walking the streets and talking to the people.
